ALBANY -- Twice disassembled, twice moved between two states, a house built by a patroon who ruled over a vast manor here is slowly vanishing.
In the latest throe of a death act that has been playing out for more than a century, interior remnants of the Van Rensselaer manor house, which is more than 200 years old, are being offered for sale by Historic Albany Foundation, an organization best known for its battles to preserve historic buildings.
The foundation maintains that the artifacts it is selling are not from the original Van Rensselaer manor house, built from 1765 to 1769. Rather, Historic Albany says, the items, including an immense window array and a massive fireplace mantle, are from a remodeling the house underwent 75 to 100 years ago.
