Study: many patients fail to control condition. (Diabetes Care).(Brief Article)

NEW HOPE, Pa. -- More than one-fourth of all diabetes patients fail to control their condition, resulting in missed work, hospitalizations and emergency room visits, according to Wilson Health Information.

The research firm recently released results of a poll of about 18,000 pharmacy customers. Among those patients, diabetes ranked seventh among conditions reported, with 22% of respondents acknowledging that they or someone in their household has sought treatment for the disease.

Noninsulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes represented the largest segment with 15%, followed by insulin-dependent Type 2 and Type 1 at 5% and 3%, respectively. The survey shows diabetes …
