Vic: Workers offered severance deal as Wheel of misfortune lies idle

MELBOURNE, Feb 25 AAP - Ninety workers at Melbourne's crippled Southern Star Observation
Wheel have been offered severance packages.

The $100 million Docklands tourist icon was closed down late last month after a three-day
heatwave caused buckling in a bracing member and cracks in one of the steel tubes supporting
the wheel.

Since it was stopped, engineers have been assessing the extent of the repairs needed,
but the operators, Southern Star Management Group, are adamant it will "definitely reopen".
